STRPPN FRIDAYZ presents TWOCKER

July 11th, 2008  |  Published in Strppn Fridayz

…

If they are not one of your current favourite producers, I beg to ask - Why Not?

UK-based Twocker’s rise to public consciousness was largely a result of the wild body-crushin’ remix of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (Slyde), released earlier this year under Finger Lickin, a trusted label that leaks really good breakbeats.

In case anyone was tracking their road to dancefloor glory since that skillful remix, we can say with assurance that they are not your ‘one hit wonder’ guys who just got ‘lucky’. They have made consistently good party jams that, very often, make you want to lick the floor.

Twocker was formed when Alex Calver and Will Bailey met on MySpace. Alex had sent Will a track; Will liked it and so sparked the dirty beat chemistry (after realising that they both share similar influences from early drum & bass, garage, hip hop and metal).

They have been working together every week at the studio since then, creating plenty of buzzing tracks that is played and loved by respected DJs like Pete Tong and Erick Morillo, and fun disco rockers like Micky Slim and Bass Kleph.

Twocker’s early works like CJ Bolland’s Sugar Is Sweeter (Twocker Remix) and Chopper (their original track released under MOS) have gotten great reaction every time it was played. They recently released a new dance bomber remixing a track called Awesomesauce, by Canadian producer Jelo.

The signature bounce and cheery bloops are unmistakable – it’s like a progressive take on hip hop’s bounce taking shape on early electronica. It’s hard to describe and it doesn’t do justice to pigeon-hole, because they don’t sound like they have just “one type of sound”.

Like, this remix of We Like to Move it.

And do yourself a favour - be sure to check out all their tracks and you’ll know what I mean.

Twocker beats makes the dancefloor a very happy place to be.

But great beats are made better if the other party elements are taken care of or given equal attention. This being STRPPN FRIDAYZ, we asked Alex Calver what makes a great party! Take heed, party organisers - time to be a pro.

TWOCKER’S TOP 10 TO A VERY GOOD PARTY

1. A good DJ (obviously!)

2. An enthusiastic, energetic crowd, regardless of size (some of the best party’s are the smaller intimate ones).

3. A suitable venue, big or small, swanky or underground, club or warehouse, the venue is essential to setting off the right vibe for the night.

4. A decent sound system, nothing worse than a crappy P.A. with no bass and lots of horrible dangerous mids n tops ripping your ears apart.

5. The same as above but for DJ monitors, sometimes the DJ’s job is made very difficult because of the lack of care when it comes to setting up an adequate monitoring system.

6. Sexy girls, if there are sexy girls, then the guys will be there too, then we have a crowd!

7. A bar, with all these people they’re gonna need some social lubricants.

8. Fair Security, nothing worse than a dickhead bouncer.

9. Good lighting, also a quality lasers can make all the difference.

10. Last but not least, a good old shiny disco ball!
